Be Good to Yourself
It's important for us to remember to be good to ourselves. However, many of us find it hard to do that because we're so busy being good to others and end up forgetting that we need to be good to ourselves as well. Some people think there's no time to think of themselves, but in fact, there is.
There are indeed benefits when we're good to ourselves including lower stress levels, better mental and physical health, more happiness and thus more ability to be there for others. When we feel healthy and happy inside we can fully enjoy life and be more resilient to whatever life brings us. So here are a few easy things you can do to be good to yourself:
Don't Place So Much Pressure on Yourself
We place so much pressure on ourselves in so many ways, including pressure to be perfect and pressure to get so much done in a day. The list can go on and on. I know it's not easy but try to let go a little bit of that mentality. When you don't get as much done as you had wanted to, don't be your worst critic and beat yourself up. If you do that, you're only creating even more stress than you already have.
Don't Rush
Enjoy what you're doing and try not to rush all the time. Let yourself take a break every so often and enjoy the process. If you take a few minutes to rest in between your chores, you'll make less mistakes and even feel less tired at the end of the day. Just remember to not overdo the breaks or you won't get anything done. ;-)
Realize Your Limitations
Take a look at your to-do list and plan your day. Think about how much time you realistically have to get a certain amount done and concentrate on the most important items first then work through your list. If you get those done and not the less important items, you'll feel more accomplished and less pressured the next morning. Just finish the less important items the next day. Many times, we don't realize our limitations and place too many items on our daily to-do list and can't possibly get them all done. If you're realistic, you will be less likely to have that "unfinished" feeling which makes people consistently feel stressed.
Forgive Yourself
Most of all, realize that we're all human beings and can make mistakes. We're not superheroes and we don't have unlimited strength and power. Stop beating yourself up for things you've done that you are not proud of. Learn from them and move forward. Accept yourself and love yourself. Doing this will help you to grow as a person and learn from your mistakes and allow you to enjoy life as much as possible.
