Stop Taking Yourself Too Seriously

Some people get in the way of themselves in life. They get in the way of their own happiness, joy and satisfaction in life. They also get in the way of true enjoyment and even finding love. They do this, many times, by taking themselves too seriously.

Taking oneself too seriously can range in severity from mild to extreme. On the mild end of the range it can be getting frustrated or angry at yourself when you make a mistake or something just doesn't go the way you wanted it to.

In the middle range, it goes further where you dwell on it longer and it can effect your mood or general disposition. You might also put unreasonable expectations upon yourself and as a result of not fulfilling them, you become unhappy and your health can suffer.

At the extreme range, people can become egomaniacs, putting themselves on such a pedestal that if anyone even questions their authority or threatens their image, they become angry and hostile. These same people can also become mentally unstable if life turns for the worse, as they are very fragile mentally and not able to handle unfortunate events in life.

As I mentioned, when you take yourself too seriously, you can jeopardize your own feelings of happiness, satisfaction, enjoyment and even love. You can become stuck in your own thoughts of disappointment, unworthiness or failure that you hold you back from truly finding true joy in life.

Remember that life is a journey and will come with ups and downs. Things happen and everyone makes mistakes or decisions they might view as mistakes. Try to bounce back quickly and become resilient to things that happen that you have no control over. Learn to roll with the punches.

Try to laugh when things happen or at least don't get angry at yourself. We all have the capabilities of directing our brains to think in more positive ways. Forgive yourself for past mistakes and learn from them.

Try to not be a perfectionist and not put such high expectations on yourself or on your appearance, love life or work life. Try to also not compare yourself to others. You can make yourself crazy by doing that. Nobody is perfect and we can be our own worst critics if we allow ourselves to be. The trick is to not allow yourself to be.

Remember that the happiest people with the most fulfilling lives are those that can laugh at themselves, go with the flow and realize that life will have its ups and downs and that it is totally okay!
