What Does Success Look Like To You?

Success surely has its own meaning to many people and the meaning has surely evolved over the years. With that said, what does success look like to you?

The most common meanings for success revolve around wealth and/or a high paying high profile career. Because of this, a lot of people over the years have been striving for success from an early age.  Many parents have pushed their children to be competitive in school and/or in sports and to attend the best schools.  Once they get into the workplace that feeling of having to be competitive continues in the workplace and beyond.

Attitudes about success have changed though over the years as a result of both economic downturns and evolving lifestyles. Success doesn't always mean being wealthy with high powered careers. There's been a shift towards enjoying life more within ones means and not necessarily having to have great monetary wealth.

In the workplace, many people have learned that a high powered job can bring wealth but it doesn't necessarily bring happiness and satisfaction. Many of those in these positions, have realized that they don't want to be workaholics anymore. In addition, sometimes their health has suffered due to the stress of keeping up with the demands of their job.

Another fairly recent development, among the working class, is the progression towards smaller houses as opposed to large mini mansions that require more expense to maintain them. Even more recently, one can see on television, some moving into "Tiny" houses, so as to have lower financial responsibilities and more freedom to travel and enjoy life to an even higher degree.

People are also seeking jobs and careers that will make them feel happy and less stressed. They want to live more consciously and more wisely. They want to be happy on the way to work and do what they really like to do.

This ever changing world allows people to be individuals and to achieve their own version of success based on their own personality, desires and values. People are free to live happy and feel successful in their own individual way. So remember from now on that your feeling of success is up to you to create, and not anyone else to create for you.
