Learn How to Improvise
Many of us place so much unnecessary pressure and stress on ourselves in a lot of ways. One way a lot people do that is by feeling that they always have to do everything "by the book" or in other words, strictly according to the rules. These rules can be set forth upon us by society or self imposed from being creatures of habit.
Living your life according to so many rules can make you feel stifled, uncreative and at a loss when you need to think quickly in a pinch.
When you learn how to improvise or think outside of the box, you release your creativity. To improvise can mean doing, making or producing something with what you have. It could also in a way mean taking a situation and making the best of it.
When you improvise, you can use rules as guides for your own way of doing things, rather than following the rules exactly all the time. Of course, it's not always possible to deviate from a rule, even your own, but in many cases you can.
Just try the following simple tasks to start you on your way to being an improviser. Taking small steps to improve your improvisational skills will keep you on track for a less stressful life.
- Next time you cook using a recipe, try modifying it a bit. Skip or add an ingredient, but do something a bit different. Better yet, go into your kitchen cabinets today and make a full meal tonight using only ingredients you presently have. If you like what you've created, then make your own recipe for others.
- Challenge yourself to do something a different way than you're used to or try a different route to work tomorrow. You just might find it to be more enjoyable.
- Try making a totally new meal out of leftovers and have the fact that it was made out of leftovers, totally undetectable to others.
- Search for unique household items to use as cleaners rather than bottled cleaners. For example, some fruits and condiments can be used to clean various items around your home.
- Every so often, at the gym, ditch the weights and try another form of resistance exercise
- Put your favorite gadget, tool or appliance aside and assemble something or cook without it. You'll find that you can be very creative when you don't have your easy go-to method of doing something.
- Think of ways to spend less on a vacation or stick to a certain budget without sacrificing enjoyment or fun. You'll find you can have just as great of an experience on any budget.
