What is Joy?
When you hear the word Joy, what comes to mind? Maybe you've never given this word much thought before - or maybe you have! Either way, I'm going to help you to have more of it in your life.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it's "a feeling of great happiness" or "a source or cause of great happiness: something or someone that gives joy to someone". They also describe it as "success in doing, finding or getting something".
We see words like happiness and success, but these two words can mean something totally different to each person. One person may see happiness as peace and contentment with life. Others may see it as a fun and rewarding career. Still someone else could see it as a happy and loving relationship. Basically, Joy can really mean a whole bunch of things or a combination of things to each person.
Whatever way you want to define Joy, let's think about it for a bit. What is the feeling inside that you have when you are doing what you want to do, living the life you want to live and when there is harmony around you? How about when you have the freedom to be who you want to be and expressive yourself without any judgement? What about when you're around others that support you and don't tear you down or try to hurt you? I don't know about you, but I feel happy, peaceful and invigorated.
Realistically, the majority of us can't feel that way all the time, nor even just 60% of the time. What we can do though, is increase the amount of our time that we do feel a sense of joy- when we experience joyful moments. The more joyful moments we have on a daily basis- the more True Joy (TJ) we have.
Now how do you go about having more of these Joyful moments in your life? Well, that's the essence of The TJ Initiative and that will be the focus of my work and upcoming posts.
In the meantime, start breaking away from any thoughts that you may have, that Joy is just not a possibility for you or is only for OTHER people. I admit, there were times in my past, that I had those thoughts as well, but over time I broke away from those thoughts. I don't think that anything is impossible any more. I'm even feeling a bit joyful right now, writing about Joy and how to have more of it. It's exciting!
Everyone does have the ability to have more Joy in their lives, including YOU. You'll begin to see that more clearly with upcoming posts. So stay tuned for more on how YOU can have more Joy in YOUR life!
